Different needs.
The same care in the work.
From understanding a learning platform to building internal tools, Matthew brings practical technical judgment to the problem in front of him.
“Very few people nowadays can be assigned a six-month project that contains only a couple of high-level details, proactively engage the necessary stakeholders to build a comprehensive requirements list, and successfully deliver the project with minimal assistance from management. Matt is one of those rare individuals.”
01 · Homeschool Connections · Technical discovery
Understand the platform.
Recommend a grounded path forward.
to
Homeschool Connections was evaluating how Caravel, its custom learning and commerce platform, could serve additional organizations. Matthew reviewed the codebase line by line, documented the technical foundation, and translated the assessment into an executive summary and a multi tenancy recommendation.
The proposed approach paired shared application code with a dedicated database for each organization. A staged rollout would validate the first additional tenant separately before bringing the existing HSC platform into the shared model, supported by automated testing and deployment.
A documented technical assessment and phased recommendation to guide leadership's next decisions, rather than a completed platform migration.
02 · Homeschool Connections · Teaching
Make technical skills approachable.
Learn by building.
to Current
Through Homeschool Connections, Matthew teaches introductory web development to students, connecting the structure of HTML, the presentation of CSS, and the interactivity of JavaScript with practical projects.
His published HTML and CSS courses each span 12 classes for students in grades 8 through 12. The teaching approach emphasizes hands on assignments, Git and GitHub workflows, and portfolio projects, helping students connect individual skills to a working website. His articles also help families understand web development and the preparation involved in pursuing software careers.
Bring professional software experience into beginner friendly instruction, with tangible projects students can build on.

The variety called for learning the business context quickly and applying the right technical approach to a bounded piece of work.
Focused development across operational systems and business domains, rather than a single application or specialty.
06 · St. Michael's Media · Internal Site
