MapAuthority · Product development

From concept to product.
Built for what comes next.

to Current

Matthew Hunt partnered with Redesigned Retail to build MapAuthority, a product for monitoring and enforcing Amazon pricing. As the sole developer during the original build, he owned the application and its complete cloud architecture.

One connected effort across product workflows, marketplace integrations, and the infrastructure behind them.

Original product development About two years

From the initial application foundation to a product ready for the market.

Application and cloud One owner

Matthew served as the sole developer during the original build, with responsibility across the stack.

Beyond the initial build Ongoing partnership

Technical support, maintenance, and continued feature development as the product evolves.

The business problem

Seeing a violation is a start.
Acting on it is the next step.

For brands selling through retailers on Amazon, minimum advertised price (MAP) violations can create channel conflict, weaken brand value, and consume time in manual follow up. A useful product needed to do more than collect prices.

MapAuthority brought product catalogs, seller activity, pricing history, retailer relationships, and enforcement into connected workflows. Matthew translated those needs into a working application and the services needed to run it.

Three milestones in the build

Build the foundation.
Then broaden what it can do.

Development began with Sprint 1 on September 29, 2023. The first three major versions show how the product grew from Amazon monitoring to enforcement and broader marketplace visibility.

Establish the foundation

Make Amazon pricing visible.

V1.0 sprint · March 31 to April 13, 2024

The initial release brought together the essential workflows for suppliers to manage products and understand pricing violations.

From account to insight

Supplier and user administration, product management, CSV imports, and Amazon SP API integration established the foundation. Monitoring dashboards then made product and seller violations available for review.

A foundation that kept growing

Subsequent V1 releases added Amazon account linking, catalog synchronization, configurable price checking, and notification processing. Brands and retailer management prepared the product for the enforcement phase.

Why it mattered

Product and pricing data became a usable workflow rather than a collection of disconnected checks.

Connect monitoring with action

Put enforcement into the workflow.

V2.0 sprint · December 7 to December 20, 2024

The enforcement milestone built on retailer onboarding and automated price updating developed during the preceding V1 releases.

Retailer participation and price updates

Retailer landing and Amazon authorization workflows connected participating retailers to the product. Azure Functions handled automated product price updates, while V2 refined minimum and maximum pricing logic and made enforcement status clearer.

More control, less manual checking

Product favorites and Amazon links improved everyday navigation. Subsequent V2 releases added daily and weekly digest emails, seller drop off tracking, enforcement controls, and support for multiple suppliers per retailer.

Why it mattered

The application connected pricing insight with enforcement workflows for participating retailers.

Expand visibility

Bring marketplaces into one view.

V3.0 sprint · May 28 to June 10, 2025

A dashboard redesign made the growing product easier to explore, building on the multi marketplace data and retailer merging work that preceded it.

A broader data foundation

Late V2 development adapted the database for multiple marketplaces, added Walmart catalog and offer history retrieval, researched BrightData, and introduced retailer merging. V3 brought that broader view into the dashboard.

Useful views for different questions

Following the redesign, V3 releases refined product and seller filters, marketplace comparisons, price history charts, violation history, and seller reports. Retailer notifications and free trial onboarding extended the workflows beyond the dashboard.

Why it mattered

Users could explore products, sellers, and marketplace activity through a more connected reporting experience.

Dates identify the documented sprint windows for each major version, not exact production release dates. Each milestone includes work developed across its surrounding releases.

The engineering behind the product

Own the application.
Connect the infrastructure.

The work extended beyond screens. Marketplace data needed a path into the application, background processing needed to run reliably, and releases needed a repeatable delivery process.

Application

Workflows across the stack

Vue and Bootstrap interfaces, .NET services, database workflows, Hangfire background jobs, and SendGrid email delivery.

Integration

AWS and Azure, connected

Amazon offer change notifications passed through AWS SQS and a forwarding service into Azure Service Bus and an Azure Functions processor.

Delivery

Improve the release process

GitLab delivery work included automated Azure Functions deployments. The changelog records development deployment times falling from 11-13 minutes to 6-8 minutes.

Beyond the original build

Keep the foundation supported.
Keep the product moving.

The partnership evolved from the original build into technical support and continued development. Later work included collaboration with Andrew and Daniel, alongside Kyle, with maintenance supported independently of feature development volume.

Maintain

Protect the technical foundation

Technical advisory access, emergency support, documentation, security updates, credential rotations, and bug fixes.

Develop

Make room for the next priority

Backlog refinement, planning, prototyping, feature development, regression testing, and cloud and database administration.

Expand

Continue beyond V3

V4 added Google Shopping monitoring, later renamed Retail Websites, followed by reporting refinements and ongoing application maintenance.

“Matt delivered an exceptional product that exceeded our expectations. His ability to bridge the gap between stakeholders like myself and the complexities of technology is truly unparalleled.”
